LENSES
Since the optical photographic lens design (wide angle to telephoto) so radically different we would not discuss details about the optics. This course will include discussion of the basic lens and some good tips and the use of lens care.
The lens is designed to refract (bend) light rays. Here are the basic convex lens (raw picture below). Note that this bend light toward the center of the film plane. A magnifying glass is a basic convex lens.
l
A concave lens to bend light away from the center. The modern camera lens you will find a variety of these
lens, with some odd-shaped individual elements.

Below is a cutaway illustration of a typical camera lens. Note the different forms of the elements. The science of optical design has become very sophisticated and, as we advanced, the photographer, has benefited from the more sharply, more rapidly, the lens with a greater color purity

Depth of field is the term we use in dealing with the sharpness of the objects in our field of view. We know our subject will focus on the sharp, but what about the objects in front, and back? We control the sharpness of the object by using the built THE APERTURE within each lens.

Aperture is used primarily to control the exposure (exposure classes on this page, be patient), but also controls depth of field (depth of sharpness would be a better term.
Words can not explain and visually so see below how the different aperture settings to control the sharpness of the object in front and behind, the subject you are focusing
